The 2008 Heartland Region Conference took place on March 28 to 30th in Williams Bay, WI at the George Williams Campus of Aurora University and it was a big success. We had 120 attendees at the welcome circle Friday night followed by an amazing keynote address by Dr. Scott Wurdinger from Minnesota State University at Mankato.  His speech was titled "Stop Talking and Start Doing: Reforming Classroom-Based Learning. On Saturday we had many exciting workshops to attend.  The topics ranged from Teambuilding for the Inclusive Classroom to Making Sense of Fire. The Glenn Davis Blues Band was Saturday night's entertainment along with a Euchre tournament.

I have been to four Heartland Region conferences now and this one stands out in my mind because the outstanding folks in attendance that I got to network with. I walked away renewed after attending workshops given by Dr. Clifford Knapp and Dr. Denise Mitten as they are experts in my area of professional practice.  I am excited to use all that I learned from this experience as I continue to impact the people that I am working with directly.

Many thanks go out to Eric Howden, director of the OWLS program at George Williams Campus, who served as the conference convener as did his group of graduate students along with Gary Cwidak who worked so hard to make all of this happen.  Thanks to all the 2008 conference committee members who also made this possible and the heartland council members.

We hope to see you next year,

Tom Holman
