Organized for students -by students, the Second Annual Heartland Region Student Summit provides a forum for discussion, exploration, and shared learning among like-minded outdoor enthousiasts through student-presented workshops and skills-based pre-conference workshops.

 

This unique event will empower students to create their own professional mission statements to become better prepared, better informed emerging professionals.

Meet other motiviated students from schools and programs across Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, Indiana, and Wisconsin.  Learn, first hand, how becomming active in a professional association may serve and inform your career in Outdoor Recreation.  Cut your teeth presenting a workshop to your peers.  Start building your professional network and begin blazing your own trail into a rewarding career in the out-of-doors.

Created with the student budget in mind, the value of this experience cannot be overstated.  Your registration fee covers Lodging, meals, workshops, and evening entertainment for the entire 3-day event.

Event Host Site: Camp Ondessonk

Situated on 983 acres adjacent to the Shawnee National Forest, Ondessonk boasts Oak-Hickory and Eastern Red Cedar/ Post Oak forest ecosystems, sprawling pasture land, and sandstone canyons that provide a spectacular backdrop for an event that both embraces and celebrates Outdoor Recreation. Miles of scenic trails for hiking and exploration will encourage participants to get outside. Close proximity to Jackson Falls provides direct opportunity for both skills clinics as well as personal recreation. Camp Ondessonk’s signature rustic cabins will gently, yet intentionally, immerse participants in the natural world and help create a special experience as students and professionals alike learn together and play together.
